Roger Curtis is the newly named Vice President of Public Affairs for Consumers Energy, headquartered in Jackson, Michigan. In his role as Vice President, Roger is responsible for all community affairs, corporate communications, and corporate giving functions for Michigan’s largest energy provider, which provides natural gas and/or electricity to 6.7 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.

Prior to joining Consumers Energy, Roger was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder in November 2016 to serve as the Director of the Michigan Department of Talent and Economic Development (TED). As Director, Roger oversaw efforts to ensure that Michigan could efficiently and effectively develop, administer and coordinate economic, housing and talent development programs.

As a long-time business operator and a member of Gov. Snyder’s 21st Century Michigan Education Commission and his local school board, Roger has a deep understanding for the required coordination and cooperation on talent between employers and educators. His recognition that building talent is a key factor in Michigan’s efforts to strengthen its economy and communities led to his appointment in state talent leadership.

As TED Director, Roger led the $100 million Marshall Plan for Talent investment in the state’s workforce and education systems. He also led the Michigan Career Pathways Alliance and Going PRO in Michigan initiatives, sat on the board of the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, and the Michigan Land Bank, and formerly served on the Michigan Tourism Commission.
