Legislative Day

Legislative meetings are a premier opportunity for Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) youth to tell their story, voice their opinion, and practice the success skills they have been learning through JMG. For many JMG youth, this was an empowering first experience speaking to their local elected officials, providing them with the opportunity to make their voice heard.

Legislative Days is our annual event focused on giving youth an opportunity to learn about the state government. Youth from around the state had the opportunity to meet with local legislators to share their experiences in the JMG program and advocate for their communities. This year, Legislative Day was be held IN PERSON in Lansing on March 8 and 9.

We dedicated the month of February, leading up to Legislative Day, to providing opportunities for youth to learn about career paths in the public sector through virtual events.

“Meeting the legislators in Lansing was a great opportunity, and I was excited to be able to participate. It made me proud that I was able to both represent myself and ask important questions. I realize that legislators are just like us, with goals and ideas that they would like to achieve for the good of our community. This is an experience I will always remember.”

My favorite memory of JMG was going to Legislative Day in Lansing. I was able to present an award to my senator and was able to meet other JMG participants from around the state. Thank you to our legislators for their continuous support of the JMG program. I wouldn't be where I am today without JMG.

“My original career goal was to be a criminal investigator, but after Legislative Days, I want to consider a career goal in politics. I loved the idea of sharing my own opinion to make my state a better place.“
