JMG Joins Youth Service Providers and Spectrum Health to Impact Youth in SW Michigan

The Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) WorkForce Pathways program was proud to partner with Spectrum Health Lakeland, the Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan, and Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren (BCVB) to help youth acquire paid work experiences, job shadows, and internships through the 2022 Inspiring GROWTH Internship. Twenty applicants ages 16-21 were chosen to participate in this 8-week, onsite work experience that provided opportunities to explore careers in healthcare, including positions that directly serve patients and those that support the running of a health system and hospital.

To help participants prepare for their internship, the JMG WorkForce Pathways team designed a collaborative onboarding event to streamline enrollment into various support programs and services. All participants were enrolled in the JMG WorkForce Pathways program and several of them were co-enrolled into Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). As the participants went through their internship, support was provided through regular check-ins, visits, and by attending their final capstone presentation and celebration.

As a result of the GROWTH Internship, the 20 youth participants were able to successfully explore, engage, and experience the multiple career pathways with Spectrum Health Lakeland. Working collaboratively with other youth serving organizations provides JMG youth with more opportunities to participate in work experiences in industries of interest.
