When Adhm Alsoufi moved from New York to Detroit just a few years ago, he faced the challenge of adjusting to a new environment while learning English as a second language. With a fear of public speaking and limited confidence, he joined Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) at Cody High School, following in the footsteps of his older brother. Over the past three years, Adhm has grown into a strong leader—participating in Legislative Day, helping lead events, mentoring peers, and advocating for English Learner support at his school through the Detroit Education Youth Council. With guidance from his JMG specialist, Anita Graham, he explored multiple career paths, enrolled in a CTE Auto Collision program, and gained confidence through work-readiness and public speaking opportunities. Today, Adhm is the valedictorian of his graduating class of 200 students, has earned a $50,000 scholarship to Wayne State University, and plans to study criminal justice to become a lawyer. His journey from a shy student to an empowered leader is a testament to the impact of JMG in breaking down barriers and helping youth reach their full potential.
Congratulations, Adhm, on being recognized as an Exemplary Youth of the Year at the 2025 Career Development Conference! We are proud of all you’ve accomplished and excited for the bright future ahead!
