Meet Anna Leathorn, Alumni Spotlight of the Month

Anna Leathorn graduated from the Ogemaw Heights Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program in 2025. During high school, she was deeply involved in both JMG and her school community, building the leadership and communication skills that continue to serve her today. 

Anna served as secretary for her JMG program and was a Bridge Crew leader and Link Crew mentor, helping incoming students successfully transition into high school. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, editor of the yearbook, captain of the Mock Trial team, a member of the Michigan Statewide Committee for Mental Health, and served as a Teacher Cadet during both her junior and senior years. 

When asked how JMG helped prepare her for where she is today, Anna shared, 

“JMG helped me build confidence, improve my communication skills, and prepare for life after high school. It gave me the support and guidance I needed to feel more prepared for college and future career opportunities.”

Today, Anna is attending Ferris State University, where she is pursuing her dream of becoming a high school English and history teacher. As a first-generation college student, she is funding her education through scholarships, grants, and her own hard-earned income. In recognition of her leadership and dedication, she was also selected as the recipient of the 2025 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Scholarship. 

While attending college, Anna works full time at the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning on campus. She has remained actively involved both on campus and within the JMG community. She serves on the YAC and participates in Aspiring Educators of Michigan, Toastmasters at Ferris, and the Michigan Advisory Council (MAC) for Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. Most recently, Anna was elected to serve as the YAC 2026-2027 President-Elect. 

Anna encourages current JMG students to make the most of every opportunity the program provides:

“Take advantage of every opportunity JMG offers, even if it pushes you outside of your comfort zone. Ask questions, build relationships, and don’t be afraid to try new things - you never know where those experiences will take you.”
