Meet Christian Dunn, Notable Alumni of the Year from Flint Genesee Job Corps, a program of GST Michigan Works!

Christian joined the Jobs for Michigan’s (JMG) program in 2019 as a student at the Flint - Genesee Job Corps campus. Facing challenges such as housing instability and limited parental support, he found guidance through his JMG specialist, Dominque Clay, who became a vital source of encouragement.

Through JMG, Christian not only explored career opportunities but also emerged as a leader. He participated in Legislative Day, engaged in student government, and served as President of his JMG class. His ambition extended beyond the classroom as he toured employers, explored college programs, and prepared for employment, staying committed to the goals he set with his JMG specialist.

In the fall of 2020, Christian secured a paid administrative work experience at Job Corps. That same year, he completed his GED coursework and graduated in November. With continued support from his JMG specialist, he completed the FAFSA, researched college programs, and enrolled at Mott Community College. After two years at Mott, he transferred to the University of Michigan-Flint, where he was elected as a Student Government Senator, advocating for change, inclusivity, and diversity on campus.

In 2023, Christian transferred to Central Michigan University (CMU) in search of new experiences and a more supportive community. At CMU, he is actively involved in the Student Government Association, supporting more than 350 student organizations. He also serves as the Vice President of Development for CMU’s Program Board, focusing on leadership, personal growth, and professional development. Additionally, in this position, he acts as a liaison between the Program Board and the CMU Board of Trustees.

Christian has been an active member of the JMG Youth Advisory Council (YAC) since 2020, contributing to initiatives such as Coffee with a Purpose: Mental Health Awareness, multiple public speaking engagements, and planning the 2022 JMG Graduation Celebration. In 2022, he was selected to attend the Jobs for America’s Graduates National Student Leadership Academy in Washington, D.C., where he participated in leadership development courses and networked with students nationwide. Additionally, he is involved with the JMG Alumni Network and has played a key role in its growth including organizing the first virtual networking event, featuring workshops on building career confidence.

Now in his senior year, Christian plans to pursue graduate school at CMU, focusing on higher education administration. His journey is a testament to resilience, leadership, and the power of support. As a role model for JMG youth, Christian continues to prove that determination and hard work pave the way for success.

Congratulations, Christian, on being recognized as the 2025 Notable Alumni of the Year at the Career Development Conference! We’re proud of all you’ve accomplished and excited for what’s next!
