When Elaina first joined Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG), she was driven by a deep-seated anxiety about her future. Concerned about what steps to take after high school, she sought guidance and structure through JMG, determined not to let stress define her path. With the mentorship of JMG specialist Katie Bouldin, Elaina transformed that apprehension into purposeful action, becoming one of the most engaged and dependable members of the program.
Throughout her time with JMG, Elaina has demonstrated exceptional leadership, service, and dedication. She has co-planned community service projects, fundraisers, and JMG activities, while providing mentorship and support to her peers. Her commitment extends beyond the program—she holds a leadership role as President of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), participates in extracurricular and community groups, and balances a part-time job alongside her college preparation.
Elaina’s drive and altruistic nature have led her to explore her career interests hands-on. Through multiple job shadows in the dental field and a rigorous 30-hour-per-week summer work experience, she gained valuable insight into her chosen career path. These opportunities helped her solidify her goal of becoming a dental hygienist and prepared her for the transition to postsecondary education. Her hard work has been rewarded with acceptance into Delta Community College, where she will pursue her studies with scholarship support.
JMG has not only provided Elaina with career preparation but also fostered her social and emotional growth. Once held back by anxiety, she now approaches challenges with confidence, willingly taking on leadership responsibilities and openly supporting her peers.
Katie Bouldin shared, “Elaina’s dedication to learning, her willingness to step up for others, and her ability to stay focused despite anxiety make her truly inspirational. She has taken every opportunity JMG offers and used it to grow into a confident, capable, and service-oriented young adult.”
Elaina’s story is more than a testament to personal perseverance—it reflects the impact of JMG in cultivating leadership, community engagement, and career readiness.
Congratulations, Elaina, on being recognized as the East Central Michigan Exemplary Youth of the Year at the 2026 Career Development Conference! We are proud of all you’ve accomplished and excited for the bright future ahead!
