This month, we're proud to recognize Chauncy Williams, a dedicated Jobs for Michigan's Graduates (JMG) Specialist at Muskegon Community Educational Center (MCEC) Alternative. Since becoming a JMG Specialist in 2021, Chauncy has helped transform opportunities for students by connecting career readiness, leadership development, and real-world learning experiences. What began with just eight students has grown into a thriving program that now serves more than 700 students across Muskegon Public Schools.
Chauncy's passion for serving youth stems from a simple but powerful belief: every student deserves someone who believes in them before they believe in themselves. JMG provided the perfect opportunity to combine education with career exploration, community partnerships, and hands-on experiences that help students discover purpose and build a vision for their future.
What motivates Chauncy most is seeing students grow in confidence. Whether a student earns an industry certification, secures a job, enrolls in college, or discovers a career pathway they never imagined, those moments serve as daily reminders of why this work is so meaningful.
One of Chauncy's favorite memories as a specialist was attending the JMG Career Development Conference with his students. Watching them compete, collaborate, and proudly represent Muskegon Public Schools alongside students from across Michigan was an unforgettable experience. Seeing students realize they belonged on that stage—and could compete with anyone—was a powerful reminder of the impact JMG has on young people.
Chauncy believes one of the biggest challenges facing today's youth is understanding how what they learn in school connects to their future. Too often, students struggle to see the relevance of their education or the opportunities available to them. Through JMG, students gain career exploration, leadership development, employability skills, and meaningful connections with employers and community mentors that help bridge that gap and give them a clear pathway forward.
One of the greatest joys of Chauncy's role is knowing the relationships he builds don't end at graduation. He continues supporting former students as they pursue employment, enroll in college, and navigate life's next steps. Watching graduates continue to succeed long after they leave high school is one of the most rewarding parts of his work.
Chauncy believes JMG prepares students for much more than graduation. By teaching leadership, communication, teamwork, professionalism, and resilience while introducing students to opportunities they may never have known existed, JMG equips young people with the confidence and skills they need to succeed in college, careers, and life.
Outside of work, Chauncy enjoys spending time with his wife, Chanetta, running, traveling, relaxing at the beach, attending sporting events, and reading leadership and personal development books. He also enjoys building partnerships throughout the Muskegon community and creating innovative, career-connected learning experiences that connect classrooms with the community. One fun fact: Chauncy is one of 16 siblings, an experience that taught him the value of relationships, teamwork, and perseverance—qualities he brings to his work every day.
Congratulations, Chauncy Williams, on being named our August Specialist of the Month! Thank you for your passion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping Michigan's youth discover their potential and build brighter futures.
