Meet Our New Youth Solutions Team Member - Cedric Brooks, Manager of Program Success, East

I earned my undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University in psychology and a Master’s in Education in Clinical Mental Health from Wayne State University. I began my career as a Youth Career Coach for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program at Michigan Works! Southeast in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I then went on to work in Higher Education Career Services as a Career Coordinator at University of Detroit Mercy and went on to become an Assistant Director of the Engineering Career Center at Wayne State University.

Bringing my past experiences to Youth Solutions, I hope to provide support and resources to both rural and urban regions across the state. Social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work are what I am most passionate about and I hope to encourage education on DEI practices to all Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates managers and specialists in my role. My life motto that I live by is: Create space for other people.

Outside of work, I am a huge music lover and enjoy going to concerts. I've even played the baritone and trumpet for over 20 years. I also enjoy reading. My favorite book is The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard. Bike riding is another hobby of mine. I am a member of Detroit Slow Roll and Detroit Soul Skate, weekly bicycle rides that focus on building community.
