After graduating from high school, Shania Riley found herself without clear direction and struggling to find her place in the world. Living in a challenging family environment with limited support, she faced significant barriers, including unstable housing and lack of work experience. But everything changed when Shania joined the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program at the Jackson Michigan Works! Service Center.
With guidance from her JMG specialist, Michael Cain, Shania discovered her passion for healthcare and began charting a clear path toward a successful future. JMG provided encouragement, accountability, and career readiness support that helped her stay focused and motivated. While still in school, she started working as an unlicensed CNA, gaining hands-on experience. She went on to complete her CNA classroom training and clinicals, ultimately earning her State CNA license—an achievement that marked a major step forward in her journey toward a career in the medical field.
After earning her CNA certification, Shania secured a full-time job and began to thrive in her new role. She is now on track to further her education, aiming to become a Registered Nurse. Shania’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact of mentorship, determination, and support, showing that no matter where you start, with the right resources, you can create a future filled with opportunity and success.
Congratulations, Shania, on being recognized as an Exemplary Youth of the Year at the 2025 Career Development Conference! We are proud of all you’ve accomplished and excited for the bright future ahead!
