Meet Gabe Janke

Before joining the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program, Gabe Janke had no experience in construction or demolition. Having spent years working odd jobs with his father, he was eager to pursue a hands-on career where he could see the immediate impact of his work. However, stepping into the construction industry felt daunting as he navigated the challenges and risks associated with the field.

Gabe’s journey took a transformative turn when he entered the JMG program at Chandler Park Academy through the Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC). This connection led him to the Detroit Workforce of the Future pre-apprenticeship program, a pivotal opportunity that provided comprehensive training, OSHA30 certification, and wrap-around support. These resources helped Gabe build confidence, hone essential skills, and adapt quickly to the tools and techniques of the trade. He mastered operating equipment and prioritizing safety, becoming a standout participant in the program.

Gabe’s dedication and hard work didn’t go unnoticed. His exceptional performance during the program earned him a full-time position at Homrich Demolition Company. Today, Gabe works 50 hours a week, earning $23.00 per hour with excellent benefits. His commitment to safety, efficiency, and continuous learning has made him a valuable team member and a shining example of the program’s success.

Through the JMG program, Gabe not only transformed his career prospects but also became a role model for others pursuing opportunities in skilled trades.
