On October 10, youth from Peckham, Inc’s out-of-school program, were formally inducted into the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program during a special Launch Celebration. This event was particularly inspiring, as it highlighted the commitment of these young people who have faced the challenges of being disconnected from both school and work. By being a part of JMG, they are making a powerful choice to re-engage and recommit to their education and career goals. Each youth received their official JMG certificate and a custom JMG hooded sweatshirt, marking the beginning of their journey toward building a brighter future.
The celebration featured a powerful keynote address by Myles Johnson, Ingham County Commissioner, who shared his inspiring story of overcoming barriers. As a young leader with a relatable journey, Johnson captivated the audience, offering valuable insights on resilience and success.
Daynan Brown, JMG Specialist for Peckham Inc., commented, “JMG has played an instrumental role in the transformative development of the lives of my students. The sense of community and meaningful connections fostered by JMG have been essential to their success academically, socially, and vocationally. JMG’s framework has been a powerful tool I have utilized to assist my students in their journey. I feel fortunate to be a small part of a team that leaves a lasting impact.”
Haven Terbrack, one of the youth in attendance, shared his excitement about the program: "JMG and Eaton RESA are the best things to ever happen to me. This program has changed my life, given me an opportunity to evolve, and helped make me who I am today."
With enthusiastic support from community leaders and an inspiring keynote speaker, the Peckham Inc. Launch Celebration marked a powerful beginning to the youths’ journey with JMG this program year.
