Lansing School District Hosts the 1st Annual Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates Service Day and Blood Drive

In a remarkable show of community spirit and youth leadership, Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) youth from the Lansing School District recently organized a blood drive in Lansing, MI. This event was a collaborative effort involving the Lansing School District, Capital Area Michigan Works!, and Youth Solutions, all in support of the American Red Cross.

JMG students played a pivotal role in the coordination and execution of the blood drive. These students took on the responsibility of signing up donors at their respective schools, work experience placement sites, and neighborhoods. Their involvement didn't stop there; throughout the event, JMG students served as ambassadors, welcoming guests and sharing personal stories about how JMG has positively impacted their lives.

The blood drive not only provided a critical service to the community but also showcased community service projects they participated in throughout the year. A brief program took place during the day, providing JMG youth from Sexton High School, Lesha Allen-White and Cadence Jackson, an opportunity to tell their stories. In addition, Carrie Rosingana, Director of Capital Area Michigan Works!, Roger Curtis, Executive Director of Youth Solutions, Ben Shuldinger, Superintendent of the Lansing School District and Kere Milow, Program Manager from Lansing School District, spoke to those in attendance about the power of partnerships in supporting youth and communities. A recording of the program can be found here

This event highlighted the core mission of JMG, which is to help young people overcome barriers to education and employment. By engaging students in meaningful community service projects like the blood drive, JMG continues to foster a sense of responsibility and civic duty among Michigan's youth.

The success of this blood drive serves as a testament to the positive influence of JMG on its participants and the broader community. It stands as a shining example of how youth programs can make a substantial difference, not only in the lives of the students they serve but also in the communities they touch.
