Meet Dalton Kauska

Despite feeling disconnected and lacking marketable skills and work experience, Dalton was a natural leader with a desire to succeed. His life changed tremendously after joining the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program at Central Lake High School through Char-Em ISD. Through JMG and enrollment in his CTE program, he developed valuable job skills and gained meaningful work experience, allowing him to set goals and chart a clear path for his future.

Dalton embraced new opportunities, including a college visit to Northern Michigan University with his JMG program. This experience, along with others, showed him and his peers that college was an option when it wasn’t prior. He applied to several Michigan colleges and is now attending North Central Michigan College.

In addition to exploring higher education, Dalton is on track to complete a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) certificate at North Central Michigan College (NCMC) this summer, thanks to dual enrollment. When the opportunity first became available, Dalton recruited fellow students to ensure the program could be offered. Unfortunately, this opportunity was not planned to continue this school year, but through the advocacy of his JMG specialist, Josh Todd, and the work ethic and commitment demonstrated last year by Dalton, NCMC made an exception to allow him and two other students to continue their CNC coursework this semester.

Dalton’s commitment to learning and leadership has not only opened doors for himself but also inspired those around him, setting a strong foundation for his future success.
