Meet our August Specialist of the Month: SaTanna Warren!

Meet our Specialist of the Month winner for August, SaTanna Warren, an out-of-school specialist, from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Southwest Michigan. SaTanna has been a Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) specialist for six months and has already made a big difference in the lives of the youth she serves. We asked several questions so you can get to know her better…

Why did you become a JMG Specialist?

I have always had a desire to help the community. When I learned about the opportunity to work with Middle School youth on career exploration, I jumped at the opportunity because I am a strong believer that today's youth are tomorrow's leaders.

What inspires you about your job?

I get inspired each time I see one of my youth's face light up when they learn about a new career option.

Recall a favorite memory about being a specialist. (an event, a youth accomplishment, etc.)

My favorite memory is when I realized how well my youth did at our first Career Development Conference last April. The youth not only performed well they enjoyed the competitions!

What is one of the greatest challenges you face in your job?

Keeping all of the youth engaged during presentations and encouraging them to keep an open mind regarding some careers.

What is one of the greatest highlights/joys of your job?

Making a difference in the lives of youth.

Why do you think JMG is so important for youth?

JMG is important because it assists youth that have barriers with setting career and life goals. JMG also gives them the tools required to achieve their goals.

Share your hobbies, do you have any pets, what do you like to do in your spare time, etc.

I spend most of my free time traveling or helping my daughter compete in beauty pageants and All-star cheerleading.

A couple random facts to get to know you better.

I have traveled around the world. I have visited 5 different continents. I run a small charity and I am currently running for a commissioner position in my city.

Fun fact:

I was a former semi-finalist for Miss Michigan USA.
