I began my career in teaching after graduating from Grand Valley State University in 2014, when I moved to Colorado Springs and started as a 4th/5th grade teacher. In 2017, due to my husband's job relocation, we moved back to Michigan where I shifted from elementary to secondary education and began teaching 8th grade English/Language Arts in a small Southwest Michigan school district. Here, I fell in love with the secondary age group. In this position, we piloted a program called Project Term in which teachers were able to design courses that differed from typical general education curriculum. Students chose courses based on interest and worked with their teachers and classmates to complete a project designed to be showcased to an authentic audience. This kind of work opened my eyes to guiding students in their career exploration and learning how to turn their passion into purpose.
At Youth Solutions, I hope to bring a positive, passionate, solutions-based approach to our mission and vision, and to be a part of guiding youth to opportunities they didn't know or even think were open to them.
On a personal level, I love to read, attend Broadway shows, and travel. It is a goal of mine to visit each of the 50 states as well as each continent. Together, my husband Jon and I, have two children. Cecilia is our spunky three-year-old and we welcomed little Finn into our family this past December. We also have two dogs, Lucky and Copper, and a fish our daughter creatively named Fisho.
