Meet our November Specialist of the Month: Charron Basey!

Meet our Specialist of the Month winner for November, Charron Basey, an out-of-school specialist, from Capital Area Michigan Works! at Lansing School District. Charron has been a Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) specialist since 2016 and has made a big difference in the lives of the youth she serves. We asked several questions so you can get to know her better…

Why did you become a JMG Specialist?

I became a JMG specialist because I felt I was the perfect person to lead and guide students through the transition to adulthood. I wanted to become the mentor I wished I had at their age.

What inspires you about your job?

Inspiration comes from the success of my students, no matter how big or small. They can always count on me to be their biggest cheerleader!

Recall a favorite memory about being a specialist. (an event, a youth accomplishment, etc.)

Hands-down, my award winning karaoke performance at Summer Summit 2023.

What is one of the greatest challenges you face in your job?

A challenge I face is getting ALL my students who only have 1 test left to come back and finish.

What is one of the greatest highlights/joys of your job?

A joy in my job is when I get to tell each one of my students that I love them!

Why do you think JMG is so important for youth?

JMG is important because it gives exposure to different careers, provides resources and gives a safe place for students who may not be as fortunate.

Share your hobbies, do you have any pets, what do you like to do in your spare time, etc.

Bike riding, reading (audible books), working my bling business, and dancing.

A couple random facts to get to know you better.

Favorite color is purple, I love singing (although I’m not that good), and I love word search puzzles.

Nominations are open to ALL, including our employer partners! If you know a phenomenal specialist, we encourage you to nominate them as our December Specialist of the Month.
