Zach Keiser - Finding The Confidence to Set Goals and Succeed

Zach struggled to find the motivation and confidence needed to set and pursue education or career goals. His lack of marketable skills and adequate work experience made him feel intimidated by the thought of speaking to potential employers. His mentality quickly changed after discovering the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program in high school. With the help of JMG, Zach learned valuable job skills and received credible work experience which boosted his confidence and excited him about the possibilities for his future.

Zach grew up in a household devoted to dirt car racing so it was a natural fit for him to be a part of the automotive program at Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District Career Tech Center. Through the JMG program, Zach had the opportunity to attend a talent tour at Bill Marsh Auto. This provided him a glimpse into a day in the life of an auto mechanic and gave him a chance to learn from employees. “Talent tours put us out there to the employers in a way that made things easier,” expressed Zach. This visit sparked a new found enthusiasm for work and motivated him to chart his automotive career path. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Northwestern Michigan College to become an automotive mechanic. While continuing his education and completing state certifications, Zach also works part time at Bill Marsh Automotive. Zach now has the opportunity to offer guidance to current JMG students who are interested in pursuing a career in the automotive industry.

Exposing youth to different opportunities and employer partnerships that allow youth to explore career pathways is a key part of the successful outcomes of the JMG program. If you’re an employer interested in partnering with Youth Solutions to help inspire and connect youth to a future beyond imagination, please contact A.
