JMG Alumna from Upper Peninsula Michigan Works!

Where do you currently live in?

Tyler, Texas

Are you currently employed? If so, where?

I am currently an Intern for Youth Solutions.

Are you currently enrolled in secondary education or a trades program? If so, where? What are you studying?

University of Texas at Tyler, obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in Political Science with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry to fulfill pre-medical requirements.

Why did you join the YAC?

I joined the YAC because I know first hand how JMG impacted my life and I want to do everything that I can to help the program improve the lives of as many Michigan youth as possible.

What impact has the JMG program had on you?

The JMG program has helped me gain valuable job and life skills like leadership, public speaking, and self confidence. JMG has also given me a family to rely upon for help when needed.

Why do you believe others should others fund or support the JMG program? Why is JMG important?

I believe that JMG is an important program because it has the capacity to, and does, make a massive change in the lives of Michigan's youth. JMG not only teaches important life skills but it also provides a family of youth and adults to rely on for whatever you need. If you just need someone to talk to, JMG does that. If you need someone to look at your resume and do a mock interview, JMG does that too. If you want to develop leadership or public service skills, we got that too. JMG does pretty much everything.

What is your favorite quote?

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined.” ~ Henry David Thoreau

Which JMG events have you attended?

Career Development Conference (CDC)

How has attending any of the annual JMG youth events helped you prepare for your future?

Attending the CDC helped prepare me for the future in a massive way as far as public speaking. Many people know my story about public speaking at CDC because Youth Solutions leadership shared it frequently at subsequent CDC events. You can learn more about my story in a Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) case study written by the Wisconsin affiliate of JAG, here.
